We are blown away to share that OCON Services has been named in the Australian Financial Review’s FAST 100 finalists list for 2023 coming in at position number 36.
Growth like this takes a huge collaborative effort! So first things first is a big thank you to each and every member of the OCON Services team. It’s our people who show up day in, day out, delivering exceptional work for our valued clients that have made this possible.
To celebrate the achievement I managed to wrangle some time with our Managing Director, Ciarán Ó Connor. We wanted to share a little more about the OCON story and how such rapid growth has been possible.
How It All Began.
From the beginning, there was to be no cutting corners. In Ciarán’s words, “we wanted to be known as the team that just does everything right”. Too often he’d see contractors motivated by the wrong reasons leave a job site in shambles requiring a second contractor to come in and clean it up.
With this attitude, we were able to attract future business leaders to our company with the same core values and vision to deliver progress.
In a nutshell, OCON’s founding ethos was simple, “whatever we say we are going to do, we do it”. That is, we deliver the works that we are contracted to deliver, to standard, with a can-do attitude, on time, every time.
Our Success Indicators
Well, it seems to be working! Our customer retention rate is just one indicator that speaks for itself. Global chemical manufacturer IXOM chemicals for example has been a client since 2015. We’ve had a team working at IXOM around the clock 24/7, 365 days a year for 8 years. The OCON crew consistently shows up on time, every time and performs our work without incident. Like Ciarán said, do what we say we’ll do.
Another massive growth driver has been the team’s willingness to travel to the most regional and remote parts of Australia. From the get – go, OCON was committed to expanding outside of Sydney and it has certainly led to some wonderful opportunities.
One of our teams has been working on The Snowy Hydro 2.0 for a number of years now. They deal with unique challenges such as snow and remote/roster living. Yet the willingness to travel has given our crew the chance to be a part of one of the largest infrastructure projects in the world. What an opportunity!
But of course, the biggest success factor when it comes to OCON’s growth and success is without a doubt our brilliant people! Many who have been with us since the beginning. Their collective skills and expertise has allowed us to expand our operations across a broad range of sectors and to offer a diverse range of capabilities.
